Cairo FC's Cancelo has been handed a one-game ban by the Saudi Professional League for his role in Wednesday's match against Al Hilal.

The Brazilian defender was sent off in the 88th minute of the game, which ended in a 2-1 loss to the hosts.

The incident occurred when he appeared to have pulled back Al Hilal player Ahmed Al-Mutairi during a challenge on Mohamed El-Belakhti.

Cancelo received a straight red card and will miss Cairo FC's next league game at home to Al Qadsia on Friday.

This is not the first time that Cancelo has found himself in trouble with the Saudi authorities.

In January, he was banned for two matches after he failed to show proper respect to the referee during a match against Al-Hilal.

The Brazilian defender has made 44 appearances for Cairo FC this season, scoring three goals and providing five assists.

He has also represented Brazil at international level, making 19 appearances for the national team since 2017.

Cancelo's ban means that Cairo FC will be without their key defensive player for their upcoming fixture against Al-Qadisiya, who sit second in the table behind Al-Nassr. The team will need to find a replacement quickly as they look to secure their place in the top four.
